Travel To Mandu
Mandu is a celebration in stone of life and joy. A tribute to the love shared between the poet - prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort,Rani Roopmati, the balladeers of Malwa still sing of this euphoric romance.Perched along the Vindhya Ranges at an altitude of 2000 feet, Mandu's rulers ornamental canals, baths and pavilions.
Each of Mandu's structures is an architectural gem, some are outstanding like the massive Jami Masjid and Hosang Shah's Tomb, the architectural inspiration for the Taj Mahal. And the glory of Mandu lives on, in its palaces and mosques, in legends and songs, chronicled for posterity.
The monuments of Mandu can broadly be divided into six groups.Of these three-Royal complex, Village group and Roopmati's Pavilion group are the most important. The Neelkanth Mahadev temple about 3 km off the main road is also one of the interesting sites. The village group includes Hoshang Shah's tomb and Jami Masjid. The Rewa Kund area has Roopmati's and Baz Bhadur's palaces and is about the farthest point of the plateau. Some of the important sites of the royal enclave are Jahaz Mahal,Hindola Mahal,Gada Shah's House,Munj Munj and Kapur tanks.
