Tourist places in Jaisalmer

Sonar Kila or the Golden Fort

The Fort : Sonar Kila or the Golden Fort standing atop the Trikuta hill is the most imposing sight of Jaisalmer.Though the hill is not very high, the fort made of yellow sandstone, found abundantly in the area commands an extensive view of the surrounding desert. There are many old havelis here with rich carvings. Salim Singh-ki-Haveli north of the fort gate is the most striking. Further north along the narrow alleys is the five storey Patwon-ki-haveli.Built by a trader-family of the city it is the most profusely sculpted mansion. A little to its east is Nathmalji-ki-Haveli built for the prime minister of Jaisalmer in the 19th century. The chambers of the haveli are decorated with lovely miniature paintings. The exquisitely carved Jain temples in the fort, built between 12th and 15th century are open for travelers.
