Islands in Andamans
Diglipur:
Situated in North Andaman Island,Diglipur provides a rare experience for eco-friendly tourists. It is famous for its oranges,rice and marine life.Saddle Peak the highest point in the islands is nearby.Kalpong the only river of Andaman flows from here.One can feel the innocent beauty of village life everywhere in Diglipur.Ram Nagar beach is famous for turtle nesting during December- February season.One who comes by boat from Port Blair will reach Aerial bay jetty which is very near to places like Diglipur and Kalipur.Ross and Smith the twin islands joined by a bewitching sand bar is 30 minutes away from Aerial bay jetty or Kalipur water sports centre.Directorate of tourism offers Island camping at Smith island during the tourist season.
Little Andaman Island:
This island south to the South Andaman Islands has various attractions in store for the tourists. Hut bay is the entry and exit point for the tourists. There are normally two or three boat services a week from Port Blair. There are two waterfalls in the island both in the midst of the evergreen rain forest. White Surf waterfall is 6.5 kms from the Hutbay jetty. One can enjoy elephant safari through the forest here. The other waterfall Whisper Wave is 20 kms away from here. Journey to the Whisper Wave includes 4 kms trekking through the forest. Butler bay a beautiful beach is 14 kms from the Hutbay jetty.The beach is suitable for sun basking, snorkeling and surfing.Tourist huts are available right on the sea shore for stay. Boating through the creek near to the beach is very fascinating.Netaji Nagar beach is another beautiful beach in the island. Little Andaman is also famous for its red oil palm plantation which spread over an area of 1600 hects.There is a palm oil extraction factory inside the plantation.This can be visited while traveling between the White Surf waterfall and Butler Bay beach. The Onges and Nicobarese the aboriginal tribes of the islands and settlers from East Pakistan live in this island. Entry to tribal areas is restricted.
Adventure Sports Activities:Andaman waters are suitable for adventure water sports like scuba diving,skiing,sailing,para sailing,wind surfing,snorkeling,high sea game fishing etc.Trekking through the dense evergreen forests and island camping in beach front forests are the other adventure activities.
Scuba diving:
Andaman water offers a fascinating world of under-water marine life, varieties of colorful fishes, rarest of the coral reefs in the world, mysterious remains of sunken ships etc.
Sailing,skiing,para-sailing,water scooters and speed boats:Andaman water sports complex at Port Blair is a unique water ports centre run by Directorate of Tourism.It offers adventure water sports like sailing,skiing,para-sailing,water scooters and speedboats.Trips for coral and ship wreck viewing are operated from here.
Snorkeling:
Enjoy the under water marine life and view the rarest varieties of corals by snorkeling near the Andaman Water Sports Complex,Corbyn's cove tourism complex,Chidiya tabu,North Bay, Islands in Mahatma Gandhi Marine national park,Cinque island, Havelock and Ross and Smith islands.
Trekking:
Go for trekking through the evergreen forest from Bambooflat to Mount Harriet, Mount Harriet to Madhuban,Durgapur to Saddle peak and in little Andaman to experience the life within the lovely,dark and deep forest.
Island camping:
Island camping are just the right choice for the adventurous nature-lovers who wish to enjoy sun,sea and the pristine beauty of nature by spending quiet holidays right on the beach.Island camping available at Radhanagar beach in Havelock island,Lalaji Bay-Long island,Smith Island-Diglipur and at other islands/places seasonally (October to May)
Nicobar:
Comprising 28 islands with an area of 1841 sq.kms the Nicobar group of islands is separated from Andamans by the ten degree channel.The Nicobars abound in coconut palms, casuarinas and pandanus.Great and little Nicobar have dark crab-eating monkeys with long tails.Nicobare pigeons are in plenty.Magapode a rare bird is found in Great Nicobar.The southern most tip of India ,'Indira Point'is in Great Nicobar Island.
Car Nicobar:
Car Nicobar is the headquarters of Nicobar district. It is a flat fertile island covered with cluster of coconut palms and enchanting beaches with a roaring sea all round.The Nicobari huts built on stilts having entrance through floor with a wooden,ladder are unique to this island.It is 16 hours journey by sea from Port Blair.
Katchal:
Katchal is a tiny island in the Nicobar group. It was this island which heralded the new millennium with the first sunrise on 1st January 2000.The island has beautiful beaches at East bay,Jhula and West bay.
Great Nicobar:
The southern end of the Nicobars this island has Indira point the southern point of India.The beach near Galathia is the nesting ground for Gaint Leather back turtles.This island also has biosphere reserve area.It takes 50-60 hour journey by sea from Port Blair.
